The Zenith Heritage 146 Chronograph carries the same case as the original El Primero, the iconic A386, with a 38mm diameter. It features the polished bevel, brushed flat surfaces, and the signature cutaway lugs. This definitely vintage aesthetic also delivers that classic feel on the wrist. Wearing a smaller chronograph like this is truly a pleasure.
Original A271 had caliber 146D (from Martel).
The El Primero movement is a legendary achievement in watchmaking, with over 50 years of continuous production. Developed in 1969 after seven years of meticulous work by Zenith's craftsmen, it was the first fully integrated automatic chronograph movement. This was not a simple approach of adding a module to an existing movement. One of the key innovations was achieving a higher beat frequency in the caliber, enabling the chronograph to measure time with remarkable precision, down to 1/10th of a second.
The metallic sunburst blue dial, paired with rhodium-plated hands and faceted hour markers, along with the two-register chronograph layout and the absence of a date (on an El Primero, no less!), all come together to create a beautifully elegant design. It's the ideal watch for both casual and formal settings. In fact, this timepiece could easily be the standout piece of a one-watch collection!
